Once my cycling buddy, Palash Sarkar suggested on Friday to join for cycling it didn’t take me too long go agree as i knew already there won’t be too many opportunities to go cycling this year as the weather is getting colder and colder each day.
We were really lucky on the following Saturday, not only was it quite sunny , it was quite warm for this time of year (about 15oC) so we planned to leave early and cycle towards Inkoo, which is a small Swedish town located in the Southern coast of Finland, about 50km from Espoo.
We started from Otaniemi, and first headed to Tapiola, then to Kivenlahti via Länsiväylä and then Kirkkonummi. We were first thinking about taking the King’s road which is a scenic cycling route passing through western Finland but we decided to stay on the main road which was actually pretty nice as well although not at scenic as the king’s road (which is so beautiful and quite hilly as i remember cycling there on my way to Tammisaari in the summer).
Anyway, but noon we finally arrived to Inkoo. I was expecting to see quite a big town (in Finnish terms..) but Palash told it’s very small (he had already cycled there once ) so we decided to cycle to the beach on Inkoo..which turned out to be a great decision..
Once we arrived there, the sun came out and the view of the sea and the boats from the pier was just so nice , relaxing and of course so rewarding:)
We decided to look for a small place to grab some hot drink and food (of course we were quite hungry at that point:) we didn’t expect for a large selection of coffee places but luckily just in front of us we found what seemed to be a small restaurant and cafe. We parked carefully the bikes and entered the place. I ordered a coffee and a cheese/broccoli pie. I didn’t expect too much from such a small and what seemed to be just an ordinary small caffe’ but oh i was so wrong….that pie was one of the best i’ve ever tasted since i came to Finland and it was actually quite cheap compared to other coffee places in Helsinki. I told Palash he should have ordered it instead of his donate and went to the cashier to ask for another piece..I asked the lady who makes the pie and she said she herself bakes all the pies and cakes. I complemented her for the great pie and asked for a blueberry cheese cake which was of course very good! We enjoyed the place so much we just didn’t want to leave..we never get this feeling when we go to caffe in Helsinki, but in small towns the feeling is so different and the atmosphere is so much nicer..(we felt the same when we visited Lohja in the early spring this year).
Anyway, after this ‘caffeine shot’ i felt so much more energized and the sun was shining again so the way home was so much more faster and we were so satisfied from the caffe place in Inkoo we both agreed it would be worth to come back only to taste again one of those pies there:)
